Infant Development Program

Infant Development 2

The Infant Development Program (IDP) is an early intervention program for families with children from birth to three years of age who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability, or have or may be at-risk for developmental delay.

The main goals of the IDP Program are to assist families to have a better understanding of their child’s overall development; to assist families to feel confident in parenting their infant; and to empower families to make effective decisions with respect to their child’s development.

Important things to know:

  • Home based and family-centered
  • Participation is completely voluntary and confidential
  • You do not need a professional referral, you may contact the program yourself if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s development

Once you are referred to a program, a consultant will visit you in your home. Together, you will plan activities that best meet both your child's and your family's needs.

Infant Development Consultants are professionals. They have skills and knowledge in child development, and can assist you to support your child's development in their early years.

Our Infant Development Program services include:

  • home visits to encourage progress, develop new activities and support parents
  • developmental assessments and written reports
  • assistance to attend local playgroups with parent participation
  • parent workshops, such as Infant Massage, Baby time and Parent Mother Goose!
  • consultation with other professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech & language pathologists
  • assistance for you and your child making the transition to a preschool/day care program
  • service coordination

This service is offered in the communities of the North Thompson valley from McClure through to BlueRiver. Please download our printable IDP Referal Form and IDP Handbook if you have someone that would benefit from this service.
