Operational Update - July 9, 2020

The last few months have bought challenges that many of us had never, ever contemplated. As an agency who provides a wide range of essential social service programs we know the thread that unites us, Yellowhead Community Services, with our communities is one of connection and support. Covid-19 has rudely interrupted operations and forced us to rethink the ways in which we provide services.

YCS in known for its responsiveness to individuals and the community in general. It has been very difficult for us to experience the temporary, precautionary closures and reduction of services in many programs. Throughout the development of this pandemic, it has been our goal to ensure that services continue at the highest level achievable. Our focus has centered on the health and safety of our clients and staff by maintaining exceptional hygiene standards and an awareness of current Federal, Provincial and Local government directives and also those of our funders.

Although the majority of changes have been difficult, YCS by nature tends to focus on the positive. We have seen programs evolve through creative, staff driven collaboration to provide services where they are needed most. A small example of these effective changes are meal preparation, free grocery and prescription delivery and extended virtual counselling services. Our staffing team at Yellowhead Community Services have been outstanding in their commitment and dedication and we are eternally thankful to them.

We wish to express sincere gratitude to our funders who have supported changes in programming, listed on our web site below. We are also most appreciative of grants and donations from United Way, North Thompson Communities Foundation, CN, Interior Savings, Women’s Shelter of Canada, Breakfast Club of Canada, Sleep Country, Decoda, Community Action Initiatives Community Counselling Fund and the Provincial Health Authority and Second Harvest.

We wish to reassure you that as we move into Phase 3 of the recovery plan, our dedication to continued safe service provision is paramount. Our staff are beginning to return to the office environment, some non-essential programs are re-opening and access to most services is now possible. We have of course, implemented measures to ensure we meet all social distancing requirements and that our staff and client’s complete health checks prior to accessing or providing any service.

We look forward to our continued relationship with each community and are confident that we will find a new sense of normal together.
