At Little Stars we are pleased to offer three child care programs; Preschool, Playschool and Multi-Age Care.

Little Stars Preschool

Little Stars preschool caters for 20 children aged at least three years old by the end of the school year in which they enter our program. At preschool we work hard to ensure literacy, language and numeracy skills are developed in conjunction with social and emotional skills. Children are encouraged to share, take part at circle time, respect their friends, develop self-help skills such as getting ready for outdoor play, using the washroom independently and line up at the door.

Preschool children are provided with a healthy snack and outdoor playtime. Opportunities for spontaneous learning are plentiful and children, natural researchers are encouraged to ask questions and discover the world about them. The goal of Little Stars Preschool is to prepare the children for a successful transition into kindergarten with a love of learning that lasts a life time.

Little Stars Playschool (Occasional Childcare)

Children who attend preschool have the opportunity to remain with staff for a fun afternoon. During the three hours of playschool the children continue to learn and engage with staff, reading stories, enjoying craft and outside playtime and resting when they feel tired. Children bring their own lunch and afternoon snack which they eat together with the group. Playschool closes at three allowing parent’s time to collect older siblings from school first.

Little Stars Multi-Age Care (Daycare)

Little Stars Multi-age care is a program designed to care for children for a full day. Our staff offer a warm and caring environment where children feel valued and welcome. Each day children are offered play opportunities that stimulate their development such as art and craft, reading, puzzle making, mini science projects, discovery of the world around them, free play activities both in and out of doors, imaginative games and simply the chance to build solid emotional connections with their peers and carers.

We take very seriously the role of care provider and staff spend the majority of their time on the floor, modelling and interacting with the children. We feel that children learn best this way and our philosophy of care ensures we lead by example.

Children’s natural biological rhythms are respected and tired children will be encouraged to sleep in their own cot/crib in the adjoining bedroom while staff continue to monitor the room as a whole. Children and staff participate in many activities as a unit; we encourage children to eat together and play together while respecting each child’s need for privacy and space. Children are required to bring their own mid-morning snack and lunch. An afternoon snack is provided by the program.

As the age of children in this program varies so greatly we have a large variety of toys and equipment that meet the needs of a broad age spectrum group. Activities will be geared to create opportunities that both older and younger children will find age appropriate and stimulating, allowing
